Mumbai, October, 2003

Godrej - Foods Division, a part of Godrej Industries Limited (GIL) and a major player in the premium edible oils segment, has launched Godrej Sunshakti - a new brand of 100 per cent refined Sunflower cooking oil in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Positioned as "Shakti health ki, aur masti swad ki", the uniqueness of Sunshakti lies in offering consumers a great value proposition in terms of health, taste and economy with rigourous quality control. The product is available in 1-litre flexi-pouches and 15-kg tins, and is priced at Rs 64 and Rs 875 respectively. Sunshakti restates the commitment of the Godrej Foods Division in making quality products affordable to the consumer.

Mr M.Y.Varma, executive vice president - sales and marketing, GIL - Foods Division said, "The strategy of launching Sunshakti is to take the regional brands head on with price competitiveness and to provide our customers value for money. While the rest of the Godrej brands of edible oil are manufactured at our facilities in Wadala, Sunshakti is being outsourced locally. Thus cutting on logistical and inventory costs, keeping in mind the quality parameters stipulated by Godrej. The rationale is to provide the best to the consumer in terms of health benefits, taste, quality and price."

The product is available in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and will be extended to other parts of the country very soon.

The foods division of Godrej Industries produces edible oils and Vanaspati, bakery fats, fruit drinks and nectar. The division has two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and a national network consisting of 800 distributors.
